somatic therapy ~AEDP~
Many years ago, before I got my start as a psychotherapist, I embarked on my own journey of emotional, somatic and relational healing as a client of a psychotherapist who practiced AEDP (short for Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy). I know - it’s a real mouthful! In my sessions with her, my relationship to myself and my life were transformed in ways I could never have imagined. AEDP is all about working together as therapist and client to be on the look out for beneficial change, to deepen it, and to celebrate it so that it can take deeper root in our day to day lives. It’s about using the safe(r) space of the psychotherapy relationship, as well as the ever deepening relationship you have to yourself, to heal. It’s about cultivating intimacy with both afflictive (causing pain or suffering) and pleasant and palatable emotions - learning from and respecting each one for what it has share with us.
All of these years later, I now have had the honor and opportunity to practice this model of therapy. To date, I have obtain my certification as a Level II AEDP therapist, and am presently in ongoing AEDP supervision to deepen my own skill and learning.
