intersectional healing
Just over 30 years ago, Kimberlé Crenshaw, leading critical race theory scholar and law professor coined the term “intersectionality” - in her own words:
“It’s… a lens, a prism, for seeing the way in which various forms of inequality often operate together and exacerbate each other.”
How we move through the world, how we relate to others, how we’re affected by systems, and our relationship to ourselves are all affected by the identities we hold. We’re affected by the identities we have been assigned (willingly and unwillingly), by the ones we hold dear, by the ones we are ambivalent about or even ashamed of.
I am interested in how identity affects us all. How various identities layer together to create unique struggles and extraordinary joys. I am always thinking about how identity impacts my clients lives as well as our shared time and space together. When it comes to areas where you experience great pride, joy, creativity and more - I want to help you celebrate, deepen, and nourish that. Where systems, groups, and individuals inflict harm upon you and those you love due to actual or perceived identities, I strive to co-create possibilities for healing, boundaries and meaningful change.
Wherever you are on your journey as it relates to your relationship to race, social class, gender, sexuality, ability, nationality, and beyond - I want to meet you where you are. Not forced, not fake, not performative - when identity comes up, I’ll follow your lead. I will respect and honor your truths, and support you as you define your own boundaries and needs. More importantly, I want for you, and for us all, to find ever more ways to shine, thrive and be all of who we are.
