Fees
My rate for individual psychotherapy sessions is $135. If you have an HSA or other benefits you would like to use to pay for sessions, I am happy to discuss this possibility with you as well. If you have out of network benefits, I may be able to provide receipts/superbills for you to seek reimbursement.
Health Insurance
At this time, I do not accept insurance. However, if you have another health insurance plan that has “out of network” benefits, your insurance company may cover all or most of my out of pocket fee (more explanation on this below).
For college students on student health insurance plans through the University of Vermont & Middlebury College (and many others including Castleton University and Champlain College), I am technically an “out of network” provider for you, but there is a way for you to seek reimbursement for our sessions. Cigna (the company that provides your student insurance) makes it possible for you to see therapists who do not accept your insurance plan. Students with these plans would pay a slightly higher coinsurance (for example, you might need to pay 30% of my fee as opposed to paying 20% if you were seeing a therapist who accepted Cigna). In many cases, students will need to pay my full fee upfront, and subsequently submit the bill to the insurance company who would reimburse you directly.
Whether you are a student or not, here is a little more information about how coinsurance works which can be helpful for understanding how “out of network” benefits work as well. For example: if your insurance plan requires you to pay 10% coinsurance for a $135 session with a provider who accepts your insurance, you would likely end up paying approximately $13.50 per session out of pocket. If your insurance plan requires you to pay 20% coinsurance to see an out of network provider (like me!), you would pay approximately $27, if 30% approximately $40.50. These are all estimates simply to give you an idea of how this confusing insurance stuff works - please note that these are not exact quotes and that exact determinations would be worked out between you and your insurance company.
If this all sounds confusing, that’s because it is! If you want to talk through it, I am happy to connect further about how to navigate insurance during our 30 minute free consultation.
